Which are the top real estate websites in Iraq?
Whether you need to rent a flat, or buy a home, where should you look? Which websites to use?
Iraq is home to 40 million inhabitants (a fast growing population!). Here are the top property portals, also known as real estate websites:
- Opensooq.com (1.6 million visits per month)
- Mredy.com (200K visits per month)
- Shanashel.com (traffic unknown)
Compared to the population, the number of visits per month are quite low
How to sell a property to buyers from Iraq?
Is there a property you would like to sell to Iraqi buyers? If it’s a property located in Iraq, then the best is probably to work with a local real estate agency, and make sure your home is published on these leading Iraqi portals. However if the property is located outside of Iraq, the situation might be different.
Selling an international property to Iraqi buyers
Did you know that Iraqi people are the #1 foreign buyers in Turkey? With 8,205 properties bought in Turkey, Iraqis clearly have an appetite for international real estate. According to Reuters, this is due to the Turkish citizenship offer (from $250,000), and weak Lira.
Finding a real estate agent in Iraq
Searching for real estate agencies, and real estate agents, I came across Shanashel. However, browsing listings on Opensooq, I could not find any broker or real estate agent easily. So I went back to searching in Arabic language, and found Dallal, and Bahethaqari.
Yet, it seems that as of November 2019, the online real estate sector is not very mature in Iraq. Indeed, the level of professionalism (quality of listings, photos) and the number of real estate websites, shows that it’s still not very digitalized.

How do Iraq property portals look like?
Iraqi real estate websites that I could find, are actually general marketplaces. So they do not show exclusively real estate, but also other types of categories such as cars, or electronics.
Both Opensooq.com and Mredy.com are available in two languages: Arabic, and English.
Google search result pages
While doing searches on Google, here are some screenshots of result pages I could find.
Note: as I’m not an Arabic speaker myself, I automatically translated potential searches into Arabic, to find top websites thereafter. So if you are a native Arabic, feel free to reach out.
