Finding a good real estate agent in Portugal is your priority. But there are thousands of property brokerages. So, how should you proceed to find the special one?
How many real estate agencies? 6,888
There were 6,300 real estate agencies in Portugal in March, and there are 6,888 today (29/11/2019). So that’s a +100% increase compared to 2013. How is that possible?
Clearly, it shows that the real estate market is going well. Property prices have gone up, number of transactions is strong, therefore more people can make a living of selling homes, as real estate agents.
Which cities concentrate more real estate agents? Lisbon and Porto!
Where do these estate agents work? Well, close to 50% are registered in Lisbon (2,043 real estate licences) and Porto (1,003). However we can’t forget Algarve, with 771 registered in Faro. Yet, Lisbon and its region is a clear leader. Indeed there are 567 real estate licences registered in Setubal, which is only 40 kilometres away from Lisbon. Therefore Lisbon and its region concentrates a huge proportion of the activity.
Finding the best real estate agent in Portugal
REMAX, ERA and Century21: the big 3
Naturally if you wish to buy or sell a home, you want to find “the one”. Don’t you? For that reason, I wrote an article explaining how REMAX, ERA and Century21 are the top 3 real estate brands in the country.
However, that does not mean that they are always the best! It’ s just a good indication of their national success.
So… who should you work with?
As an example, I’ve worked with real estate agents from Fastighetsbyran. Their strong marketing strategy, and strong partnership with Idealista (leading portal) they ensure optimal visibility for the properties of their customers.
For instance, doing a search for a home in Lagos above €320,000, buyers will find many properties from Fastighetsbyran. So really, you need to look at:
- On the leading property portals in your area/city/region: which agencies are most visible?
- Read this article on top agencies in Portugal, which gives additional information
