Zoopla bought by Silver Lake for £2.2 billion

In may 2018, Silver Lake bought Zoopla Property Group (ZPG). for £2.2 billion ($3 billion).

ZPG is a hodgepodge of technology companies assembled over a decade of takeovers, from the comparison site uSwitch to property portals PrimeLocation as well as Zoopla.

Zoopla’s revenues in 2017 amounted to £245 million.

Zoopla’s strategy

Zoopla’s strategy is geared towards diversification. Indeed this is the major difference between Zoopla and RightMove. While RightMove gets close to 100% of its revenues from agencies’ subscriptions, Zoopla gets only 25% from its £245m of revenues.

Close to 50% comes from its comparison site uSwitch, and another 25% from diverse companies it has acquired in the past 10 years. Zoopla acquired uSwitch in 2015 for £160 million.
