Last year, foreign buyers acquired 1,592 residential properties in Lisbon, which represented 13% of total transactions. In other words, foreigners invested 675 million euros in Lisbon’s real estate market.

Foreigners spend more than local buyers

The average price of a property acquired by a foreign buyer was € 424,500 (+ 8% compared to 2017). Consequently, foreign buyers spend 38% more than domestic buyers (€ 306.700).

Therefore, while international buyers represented 13% of the number of transactions, they represented 28% of the market, thanks to this higher purchasing power!

Nationalities of foreign buyers in Lisbon

What countries do foreign buyers come from? In terms of nationalities, buyers come from 80 different countries (54 in 2107). Five countries continue to concentrate more than half of the international investment in housing in Lisbon (55%):

  4. United Kingdom (7%)
  5. USA (7%)
